Our Grass-fed cattle are raised outside year-round, on pasture from April until November. All of cattle are part of an intensive rotational grazing program in order to fully utilize and improve the soil in our small 5-acre pasture. Our Dexter cattle graze a diverse mix of perennial forage and cover crops to for high nutrient density and healthy cattle. All of the cattle on our farm are Dexters or Jerseys, which are great small framed animals for our grazing settings. We have never needed to use growth hormones or vaccines. Our cattle have a wonderful life grazing to their hearts content in a low stress environment.
We practice regenerative farming practices on our farm, trying to improve soil while also growing quality food. We carefully control cattle movements to prevent overgrazing and bare earth. We also raise chickens in portable pasture pens to provide additional nutrients for the pasture. By limiting soil disturbance soil structure improves and reduces soil compaction. Since 2021, when we purchased our first Jersey bottle calf, we have seen our land improve considerably.
